Introduction

The test oracle problem is one of the most challenging problems in software engineering. A growing body of research has examined the concept of Metamorphic Testing (MT), and has proven that MT can effectively alleviate the oracle problem and detect real bugs. Compared with most other testing methods, where the correctness of each individual test output is checked, MT has a different perspective on testing: it focuses on the relationships among the inputs and outputs of multiple executions of the software under test. MET: The International Workshop on Metamorphic Testing will bring together researchers and practitioners in academia and industry to discuss research results, experiences, and insights into MT. The ultimate goal of MET is to provide a platform for the discussion of novel ideas, new perspectives, new applications, and the state of research, related to or inspired by MT.

Workshop Format

We consider two possible scenarios depending on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic: a face-to-face or a virtual synchronous meeting. In both cases, the event will start with a brief presentation of the workshop by the organizers and the announcement of the best paper award. Next, Prof. Michael Pradel from University of Stuttgart will give the keynote speech about his recent works on the testing of quantum computing systems (confirmed). This will be followed by paper presentations and discussions. We plan to accept about twelve submissions, including full papers, short papers, and talk proposals (cf. Section IV-A). For each accepted full paper there will be a 15-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of discussion. For each accepted short paper and talk proposal there will be a 10-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of discussion. We are also considering other activities to foster discussion such as a panel or an ask-me-anything session, but we will wait until knowing the final format of the workshop, physical or virtual, before taking further decisions.

In the case that the workshop must be held virtually, we will follow the plan of ICSE2023 and use the specified platform. We will also request the authors of accepted papers to provide pre-recorded videos of their presentation to be included in a public on-line playlist.
